Sylvia is an illustrator pur sang. She loves to draw with black fineliner on nice thick paper. Over the years, Syl has developed into a true digital multi-talent; effortlessly she creates completely new illustration styles which align perfectly with the needs of our clients.

Meet the Mates!
Iris is a digital 2D animator. She enjoys working with Adobe After Effects combined with Illustrator. Iris has a great sense of composition and movement. Her love for animation arose early in the great Disney classics and has grown larger thanks to animation festivals as HAFF and CLICK!
Gijs is literally a man of many sounds. He composes his own music, sound design and voice-overs for various projects. Sound has always been part of the overall vision of a product. In addition to producing audio, Gijs is also a musician and project manager.
Procedure
How is an explanimation made?
1. First we make an appointment to clarify your needs, goals, target group(s) and the available budget. With this in mind, we propose a package together with a matching quote.
2. Once we have an agreement, we write a script together. Taking the maximum length of theexplanimation into account and the (possible) use of a voice-over.
3. After agreement on the script, we create a storyboard. In this ‘strip’ we capture the image sequence. By now you will get a better idea how the explanimation is going to come out.
5. The animator brings all the images literally to life. The first version of your explanimation is deliveredwith the chosen voice-over.
6. Any feedback is processed. Background and supportive sounds are added which bring the explanimation completely to life.
7. Et voila, you explanimation is ready! Post your explanation animation on your website, share youranimated video via social media or use your explanimation during your presentations!
The Explanimates work according to a clear roadmap. By doing so, it remains clear to all parties what exactly is going to happen. We lay down a clear and tight schedule in advance, so the explanimation will be ready on time. In addition, we are planning several moments for feedback, hence there is always room for consultation.
Producing a fine explanimation is specialized work. That’s why the ‘Mates’ spend relatively much time on the concept and storyboard. In this way, the most complex or technical issues will become clear for everyone!

Our first meeting
The story begins in 2006 in Groningen.
Sylvia and Iris meet during their first year at Art Academy Minerva. During the orientation week in Cologne, Germany, they were not too fond of each other, even though they were each other’s roomies. However, after the first few weeks in the study banks, a true friendship flourished between the two. Syl and Iris were a fact.
2010
Graduated!
In 2010 Syl and Iris received their Bachelor of Fine Arts. Both graduated with a major in Communication Design. Sylvia with a specialization in Illustration and Iris with a specialization in Time-Based Media.
2014
First cooperation
By the end of 2014 something special occurred; besides the close friendship a true business agreement was concluded! Iris hired Syl for Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma. Simultaneously hired Syl Iris for Spaarzaam. This cooperation worked so well, they soon decided to start a new business together. Of course, Gijs, the favorite audio guy of Iris, was brought on board as well!
2015
Explanimates is here!
As of now, the workforces of Syl and Iris are bundled for even better Explanimations! Sylvia designs the illustrations which Iris brings to life in the Explanimation. Together they work faster and the possibilities are doubled! Our external mate Gijs creates all the appropriate sounds. That’s how we produce the most awesome Explanimations.
